Artist’s Meme/ Survey thing…

1.) What are your favorite mediums to work in?
I like to use colored pencils, marker and watercolor the best. I use acrylic paints once and a while, but usually on custom vinyl toys.

2.) What is your favorite type of paper/canvas/board to work on?
For sketching I like to use what ever paper I can find: scraps, drawing paper. Moleskine sketchbook paper is good for pen and ink sketches. For illustrations and paintings I like smooth or velum bristol board and watercolor paper.

3.) Do you have a particular brand you use, or store you buy from?
I like the Canson papers, or whatever is on sale. Prismacolor for colored pencils, Windsor &Newton Cottman for my watercolors. I like Copic markers. I’ve used Prismacolor markers for a while, but over time I found that they dry up too fast, the colors aren’t accurate and they smell terribly.
For art stores I like Jerry’s Art-a-Rama and Blick.

4.) Do you use digital mediums at all? What are your favorite programs/ operating systems?
I’m not a huge fan of digital media. I find it a lot harder to work with… although I have been using it a little more lately.

5.) Do you have any favorite techniques or tricks? Care to explain them?
I like using Prismacolor colored pencils, and then going over them with the colorless blender marker. The marker dilutes the pencil and smoothes and blends colors nicely.

6.) Do you keep a sketch book of sorts?
I do. I have about 5 that I am using at the moment… They aren’t updated as much as I would like them to be.

7.) Where do you show off your work? Personal website, galleries, DeviantART, personal art blog?
I show my stuff off here on my Tumblr , my DeviantART, and website.

8.) Do you have any favorite artists that you look up to or inspire you?
Lots! All my friends inspire me. Then I look up to a nice variety of comic artists like Lucy KnisleyErica MoenSteve WolfhardRobert Barrett,Dale O’FlahertyRyan Pequin, Jill Thompson,
Reed Bond, Dave Valeza, Drew Green, and several others.

9.) Do you currently take any art classes/ go to art events regularly?
Not classes. I wish I could find something that didn’t cost an arm and a leg to go to.
I do go to Prov Sketchy once a month, it’s a burlesque-style figure drawing meeting. It’s fun.

10.) Do you have any words of advice for aspiring artists?
It’s so easy to become discouraged and give up. Don’t. Force your self to stick with what you are doing. You will never learn to improve if you keep giving up.
Always try new things.
